The recently released chronicle books don't really fit well into any part of the full list below, so i am instead listing them as a separate entity.

Chronicle,a series of three volumes documenting the lore from creation up to cataclysm. The beginning of the story revolves around rhonin in the (more recent) present. No matter what you're interested in, a good starting point is world of warcraft: The trilogy was meant to set up the lore of world of warcraft, so it's placed chronologically after the third war and before the age of vanilla wow.
