The Son Book Review. Son of the storm is a book that grew on me. Williams do more with this world in other fairytales.
It’s easy to assume because someone doesn’t give a stellar review, or notes elements they didn’t enjoy that they in turn didn’t like the book. Each book left me eager to pick up the next and then i felt a sense of closure and rightness at the completion of son. The sins of the father shall be visited upon the son.
Preceded by messenger, the third book of the series, it follows claire, the birth mother of gabriel, the baby seen in the giver, the first book in the series.
Johnson has made just one trip in his life to north korea, but he's managed to capture the atmosphere of this hermit kingdom better than any writer i've read. 'how to raise a feminist son' is a poignant and timely book. In part, it had to grow, because i was in the wrong mood for new fantasy worlds (you know how sometimes, the thought of paying attention to all that new information is just…a lot), but i stuck with it, read it in chunks, and ended up loving it just as much as i’d expected to, based on what i’d read of the author’s work previously. Son is the final book in the giver quartet by lois lowry.
