In the bible, her life is only hinted at in a brief and violent detour within the more familiar chapters of the book of genesis. The red tent is (very) loosely based on the story of dinah in genesis, and it is a book that is very easy to read. In the red tent, what matters to the narrator is the women. At its core it affirms the value of women’s work and wisdom as well as women’s physical strength and fortitude. They are furious about the kidnapping and rape of their sister, and slaughter every man they can find.
