I don't know if it was published in the us, or only in canada. A little boy named jim is the main character in the children’s book, while the boy featured in the advert is allegedly named joe. There was something that was very unique about the ’80s.

It's about a young boy who sets out into the woods to catch a monster (or dragon?). I'm trying to find an illustrated children's book that i enjoyed in the early '80s. I have been trying to remember the name of the movie for about ten years. Front cover was blue and pictured was a cyclops sitting on a mountain.
