Lonesome Dove Book Review. Larry mcmurtry’s “lonesome dove,” the epic tale of two grumpy old men rambling around rugged territory from texas to montana with their herd of cattle, has long been considered one of the finest novels ever written. With that said, the pacing really killed it for me.
Hysterically funny the one moment, heartbreakingly tragic the next, it alternately delighted and depressed me to an extent i hav gus and his pig were aggravating company. Journey to the dusty little texas town of lonesome dove and meet an unforgettable assortment of heroes and outlaws, whores and ladies, indians and settlers. For now, for the great cowboy novel, 'lonesome dove' will do.
My reading group selected it as our classic read so i dove into it again, probably for the fourth time.

His writing is almost always offhand and laconic, with barely any sustained passages intended to be beautiful or fervent. Despite being pegged as a regional writer, the native texan was no niche talent.
