It’s an imperfect book, unbothered by a few loose ends. After the stranger (as she coyly calls him throughout the book) pursues her back to he Book of a thousand days is a wonderful, amusing and thoughtful book that promotes a protagonist who isn't beautiful, but relies on her wits and her inherent good nature to survive.
“city of a thousand gates” might not appeal to readers who like their stories neatly unified, resolved, centered on the individual.
