I listened to the audio today after reading a lovely review by gr friend mischenko. Despite the difficulty of opal’s childhood, she still sounds appropriately like a child. Besides including believable, rhythmic dialect, dicamillo gave opal a rather intense back story. Young opal and her father, the preacher, move from one small town in florida to another.
